I think it's the subtle body horror aspect of it, you know? You look at it, and at first it seems perfectly normal (well, spare the fox head, but that's standard fantasy fare). Then you notice the backwards hands and you realize that something isn't right. Then you get all sports of horrible images of wrists cracking and bending backwards, and it becomes a lot more terrifying.
Or maybe that's just me. Well, whatever it is, it's effective.
Was it hard to draw the hands backwards, or visualise the placement, after drawing every other figure with correct human anatomy? I imagine it would be a bit of a curve-ball.
backward hands check! and damn is it disturbing looking. great picture! I really like the robes, the possibility to have many hidden pockets in that purple or under the feathers. something people forget about.
