Finally the first tablet promo commission is out, a dangerous and cute egiptian female vampire.

This commission was in on the begining of august ( more like the en of July :P ) and two months after...is out. So as you see it too quite a long time and there are still several commissions that came along with this one and some even before than this one... so I really need to catch up before my commissioners send more assassins after me :(

So! I won't be taking more non-commercial commissions until I clear at least half of the current work I have pending, which will take most likely the whole month.

I'm really thankful with all the support you have given me and the least I can do is try to catch up as fast as possible.

My deepest apologies for my commissioners!

Thanks for watching!

The Danger is Over!

Wed Sep 23, 2009, 9:23 PM
Apparently the danger is over, yet I still have to be on the lookout and deal with a curios new simptom: I'm all red a shimp that fell asleep on the beach with no sunscreen... :D

Luckly the stingy skin is quite bearable and other than look odd and the ocassional scratch, I'm ok now.

I'm back on my work commissions and starting to catch up.

Thank you all who game me such nice words of support, I really appreciate it. Gracias!

O.o I may be seriously sick...

Sat Sep 19, 2009, 12:40 PM
Guess what, I'm not out of my sickness yet...and turns out it may be quite serious if I don't take very good care of it. Deadly serious.

Now I'm a bit scared... :S

The past couple nights I've spend them sitting down and trying sweat the sickess off (literally) since I still have high temperature. I went to the doc again and was given more meds and told to take real good care of myself or it may get VERY complicated...

I'll try and continue with the commissions I'm already working on as fast as possible... I apologize again for more and more delays... Thou this time is completely out of my hands :(

Of sickness and Jobs

Thu Sep 10, 2009, 10:01 PM
Well, its almost a week on my new dayjob and I gotta tell you, it is a lot busier than I thought! Walking all day around printing tons of posters and blueprints (not exactly blue thou) no time to chat or jump around dA, Facebook or even my email.

On top of that, I got a terrible flu and almost a fever on monday and I'm just getting off of it today... quite the busy sick week.

All this ramble is to tell all commissioners this: this week was dead on the artsy department.. sorry for the trouble this may cause you... again, I'll write you all seen to try and settle dates again before you send assassins on me.

I got me a Day Job

Fri Sep 4, 2009, 2:20 PM
The saying of "Starving Artist" is no myth at all...

7 months ago I started this as a career aiming to work as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator in the RPG industry. So far I think I' doing "ok" despite the fact that I haven't actually pursued the biz and send out lots or Portfolios... Actually I have just send one and because I was requested to. To date, all work I have is because of recomendations and friends on the web. Enought work to pay the bills and have hotdogs to eat (and buy other stuff that I won't write here lest my wife wacks me for expending moneys on childish stuff). The graphic design gigs arejut starting thanks to the Wayfinder. Right now a couple tiny layout offers are on the air and I'm working on one with a recognize thin bald guy of the RPG industry, and soon I might start with cartography as well. So, I've never fell shot of work but my usual "for free or very cheap" methods were getting the best of me, but that's also what go me started on this.

So, in order to get me some tranquility and stability (these beign twice as important to the wife) and keep my Paizo suscrption :P, I decided to apply for a dayjob. 'course this will take 70% of the time I have to draw but it will cover all my payments, meals and a bit more, and I got a job where I don't have any managing issues and heavy stress situations as I use to have, so my head stays clear for arriving home and continue drawing. Also there is a slight chance to find downtime on the new job to continue conected with the illo work.

This day job, beign a simple job, will help me get back on my feet, save me some money and continue my training in the artsy department to one day really hope to be good enough to live off the art. Right now I can't really hope to get a decent pay on my scrappy art, so lets get real :P. I'll continue the developing of professional RPG relations and try and devote more time to actial art improvement and try different themes. The steady paycheck will help a lot on this side.

Oh, what's the dayjob? Minding a Digital printshop, you know, lots of big plotters, color printers, laser burners, 3D modeling machine... Dreamland! :D

For all those concerned commissioners, don't. I'll work the commission queue soon so you can check your status.

Females get more attention

Sat Aug 29, 2009, 10:24 PM
I've noticed a pattern of Favs on my gallery

Female
Pointy ears
Manga-like

there you go.

The stuff I make with boobs, pointy ears or those who have a slight hint of manga get the most Favs... :D

Not my Fav style but apparently the most liked.

One of these theys I shall try a hot female manga elf...

The two exceptions:

Maybe because it does not look manga at all except for the ears... and because is skinny rather than the typical busty illos

I think this guy is my most "manga" face

Well, what are your thoughts on this kind of favoritism?

Originals at $10

Mon Aug 24, 2009, 11:27 AM
Soon I'll mail an envelope with lots of originals in it to the US and I want to take the opportunity to try and send more!

Most originals (pencil on letter-size pape) you see on my gallery are up for sale on $10 each plus shipping ($6 in the US, I have to double check this). The only ones excluded are those that are gone already and those that belong to Wolfgang's/Open design publishing. All others are fair game.

People who commissioned me a drawing have first dibs on their original.

This sale will be up for until next week's weekend. If you are interested and/or have some questions please contact me on my email or send me a note.

The Quest for Tablet Starts

Mon Aug 17, 2009, 9:39 AM
These are the 10+ Slots for the tablet [link] patrons:

1. Steve Russell
2. Adam Daigle
3. ~Sothal
4. Clinton Boomer
5. ~Montalve
6. Sharoth
7. ~dwickham
8. *gorgonbreath
9. Russ Taylor
10. ~JonShade
XXX.~mtbogre

The drawing order is as presented: first come, first served. In case someone is in no rush to get their commission and wishes to wait, I'll notify the next in line. This process may take a bit long since I'm new with the tablet and I still need to get used to it. Also, thankfully most of the commissioners grabed full page or several commissions, so finishing some of these works may take 2-3 days. I'll keep you posted so that you know where does you commission stands.

I must say....the tablet is really scary!!!! Is this big thing bigger than my laptop and loos so nice and delicate.. I'm affraid to lay my hands on it not to scratch it... I suppose the surface is strong enough even to withstand a mouse (it comes with a cordless, batery free mouse) but it looks so soft and sensitive...

Last week I didn't had the opportunity to use it ttoo much... I had some big deadlines and trying the new tablet would had got in the way... but this week is tablet time and I'm not using the optical mouse any more!!! (scary...) So if you see odd color strokes on the next commissions, now you know why.

Thanks again to all the tablet patrons and all of you how have been so supportive. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you!

New commission rates

Mon Aug 3, 2009, 11:52 AM
They are LOWER!!!

After talking with several commissioners I've decided to simplify things and add value to the work the commissioners so kindly give me.

You can check'em here > [link]

On a nutshell, these are the changes:

- Rates are simplified to 4 sizes.

- For all previous and future commissioners, you can get your original for $10 (not the usual $30) plus shipping.</b> I'll try to ship them from the US (if a friend is kind and patient enough to help me ;)) so I suppose that shipping will go around $5-8 bucks or less.

- Color is a bit cheaper now (thanks to the soon-to-arrive tablet).

- You can ask me to keep your commission "private" and not have me display it on public galleries like this one and Facebook when is finished.

I hope these changes make commissioners happier. I'll be happy if I can land more commissions ;)

Commission Rates, Updated

Mon Aug 3, 2009, 11:37 AM
These are the standard rates for non-commercial commissions.

EDIT: After talking with several commissioners, I decided to make these changes: The rate have been severely simplified. The cost for color decreased. Commissioners now can purchase the original of their illustration for $10 +shipping each, no matter the size. Also, the commissioner may request to keep their illustration private and NOT be displayed on public electronic galleries, like DeviantArt or Facebook

All rates are B&W, for color just add 50%

1/4 page $20
Examples: Potraits, tiny characters, small monsters
i.e.>

1/3 page $30
Examples: Characters, small scenes

1/2 page $50
Examples; Character(s) with background, standard medium scenes

Full page $90+
Typical "cover" illustration, several characters, large scenes

A "page" is a 8.5x11" page. Its not an actual fixed size but an estimated of a work area for the level of details. These rates are a base. Sometimes a quotation will have to be made in case there are too many details on the illustartion

If you want any other kind of work, I need to quote it.

Process
-Send a description as detailed as you want, pose included. For characters, the character sheet and background story is most useful to add “feeling”. The abode character rate count on 2-3 signature items. Tiny familiar/animal companion is counted as 1 item. If the character has to have several detailed items, I’ll quote it up. Small belt items and clothing/armor does not count on this “limit” Overly detailed clothing/armor does.

-3 sketches are sent with poses to select within the next 2 to 4 days (depends on commissions queue)
i.e.>

-Once the pose is selected, the design and is sent for revision and minor changes
i.e.>

-Once the sketch is approved, it proceeds to detailing and cleanup, ending up like this
i.e.>

-Then the illo proceeds to whatever finishing the commissioner decided to go with.

-The Illo is send on a high resolution .jpg file to the commissioner.

Payment and schedule
-Payment on advance on Paypal to book it.

-Process takes from 1 to 3 weeks, depending on schedule and type of commissions. Ask for timeline

-I keep the original drawings (if any) and IP. If you want any of both, we can discuss it. You can use your illo on whatever you want as long as its non-commercial use.

-I can use the illos for private portfolio and other non-commercial uses. I will notify you if I use it.

If you have any doubts/questions, please write me a note/email.

The Quest for Tablet Promo!

Mon Jul 20, 2009, 7:40 PM
Once upon a time there was a frog who wished to become an amateur fantasy artist but was trapped on a dead-end job... But the the frogiry godmother came and granted his wish and kicked the frog unto the freelance wastelands and gave him a pencil to face all kind of dangers and commissions... Now the frog has leveled up (he thinks) and needs to upgrade his tools otherwise facing larger treats and jobs will be pretty much impossible!

And so the frog made a PROMO!

For the next 30 days I'll open 10 commission slots and I'll COLOR all of these for free!!! Check the commission rates link below and see what you may be interested. I'll use all the collected $ to but me a tablet. At the end of the 30 days -on my birthday! :D- or when all slots are taken, I'll run to buy the nicest Tablet I can afford and proceed to color the promo commissions.

If you don't care much for color, I'll trace your comish with the tablet and give you the original sketch instead of the color (shipping on commissioner's count).

If you want your commission colored AND the original, you'll get it on half usual price.

If you'd like to become a frog patron but can't think of a commission right now, I'll hold the slot for you for up to 3 months.

1. Steve Russell
2. Adam Daigle
3. ~Sothal
4. Clinton Boomer
5. ~Montalve
6. Sharoth
7. ~dwickham

These slots don't mean 1 commission, but 1 commissioner. If you want more than one, we can discuss it. To book the slot, I need to get the full $ upfront (as usual).

Become a Frog Patron!!! :D

Heroes of the Jade Oath

Thu Jul 16, 2009, 8:49 PM
Rite Publishing is launching a source book for Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed RPG.

This book is an oriental themed version of the AE core races and ads lots of oriental flavor on fluff and crunch! You can check the details here > [link]

I was luckly invited to paticipate in this mega project with three images, and so far I have finished two:

Next, I'll make another color piece with two character (full body characters this time). Oriental style of course!

These commissions gave me an opportunity to try my hand at coloring and this time I'm quite satisfied with the result, for once :P

I hope you like it!

Fri Jul 10, 2009, 9:20 AM
I have oficially started working with Nevermet Press of Jonathan Jacobs!

I have previosly workid with him on his former OpenGameTable blog, which made the Antology of Blogs book for 4e, the very first publication of my illustrations. Now he has moved on and formed this publishing house and have mane more projects on the line, and now I've joined one of such projects.

You can find a sketch of mine of a elf and a dwarf on a taver rooftop here > [link]
This is the part of a fiction piece which I found very interesting, mostly because the "end" is quite expected but develops on a unexpected manner.

Want to hear a bit more about the Wayfinder Fanzine?

We talk about Wayfinder and PaizoCon, and I got carried away with it, so it was a bit long, Ryan was kind enough not to cut me short... too much :D

This is my first interview ever, I was VERY nervous -specially because it was on english- and they just let me go rambling on and on :P so please pardon all the mistakes and all :)

thefroglab.com

Thu Jul 2, 2009, 11:25 AM
HELP!

I'm looking for a volunteer webmaster who wants "in" on my projects and is willing to participate pro-bono. The tasks at hand are simple, just upload very simple HTML front pages, upload a few "products" and create some links every now and then. Nothing overly complicated.

I have a domain (or two) that is hosted already but my 0 Ranks on website programing has them all blank and empty for quite some time now.

I need to put and end to it NOW

What is The Frog Lab (TFL)?
Its the website/"company" where I plan to host and "publish" the stuff we create/participate in with several other paizonians and other publishers. TFL does not intend to become a publisher, but intends to support other publishers to create their stuff, aimed mostly to the graphic part, like Art, Cartography and Graphic Design. Sometimes we will create products of our own and will publish it ourselves if its free stuff, or publish it through other companies if its comercial stuff.

What am I looking for?
I need a serious webmaster that's willing to comit with the project and can spare a couple hours a week for it. I'm thinking this will require some 6-8 hours on a month-lapse (or shorter if desired) to create the website structure and afterwards some 1-2 hours a week to keep it updated.

What's in for the webmaster volunteer?
Well, I can't offer $ right now... Since most of the projects are free, TFL is not making $ as a "company" right now. What I can offer is a spot on TheFrogLab crew hoping that eventually will become a paid/side job and/or maybe some art bits as trade for the webmaster service.

What's to be done on the website?

Fixed features
Projects
>Linkys to projects where the frog lab has participated
>Catalog of full TFL developed projects

Paizonia (comic strips)
>Upload one or two strips a month. Several strips to upload already.

Portfolio
>Upload some art pieces, link to projects we TFL have partcicipated. Upload the rest as time goes by...

Wayfinder (Paizo Fan United)
>Upload/link to No. 1

Linkys
>Some linkys to TheFrogLab patrons/contractors/friends
Other fixed features may be added soon.

Where is TFL right now?
We are a few freelance people that is interested in joining some of the projects. I'm pretty much the only "base" member so far. I'll list the other freelancers as soon as I get ther permission :P. Currently we are working on Atomic Array, Rite Publishing, Pathfinder Paper Minis, Paizo Fans United and Nevermeet Press. We have worked -and hopefully continue to work with- Kobold Quarterly and Open Design. Soon we will appear with a very "special" publisher... just a few more months... :D

Projects on the works
-Jackanapes adventure by Clinton Boomer (first playtested at PaizoCon II!) (TFL+Publisher)
-Breastiary (TFL with N'wah)
-Golarion Cultures Calendar (TFL)
-Halls of the ountain Kings 4e (Open Design)
-Litorians (Rite Publising)
And other more secretive projetcs...

So, I hope I can pick your interest and find a Webmaster for TheFrogLab soon! If you are interested to participate with TheFrogLab but other than a webmaster, just write me or post.
