Barskeldan came from a clan where boys become men by slaying beasts called Nithrauk, an insane amalgam of sea lion, polar bear, and venomous porcupines. Yeah. He grew up in the shadow of his father, a legendary hero and chieftain. Deciding to make his own legend, he picked up his axe and started walking south as far as his legs would take him, which was far indeed. He's cut from the same granite as his father, and his machismo is so large that the only thing he takes seriously is the apocalypse. Which is pretty much what he's dealing with, so that works out.
